FINDING HARMONY How Can Lounges and Concessions Coexist?

As lounges expand across the airport ecosystem, airport operators say their presence has become a competitive selling point. But as travelers divert their attention to the premium spaces, traditional concessionaires say they need stronger collaboration and an acknowledgement that the competitive stakes have changed. At one AXC 2025 panel, experts from across lounges, concessions and airport leadership came together to try and find that balance. Libby Hurley, director of concessions for the Houston Airport System , moderated the session and opened with a question: “How can lounges and concessions live harmoniously for the benefit of the operators, the airport and, ultimately, the customer?” she asked.
